01:06 : New Years resolutions part the first
So one of my new years resolutions is to go swimming at least once a week.(bob ponders making stop starting posts with So one)
So far this year i have managed this. I went with johnckirk to Holmes Place in Croydon on sunday and today i went to the Purley Pool all my own.(arnt i grown up?)

Now i have to decide which one is the better choice for long term use. Although of course this all depends on the job situation.

Holmes Place

Pluses:-
close
sauna
Good facilities
free shampoo and conditioner

Minuses:-
expensive
lanes not really wide enough for me if other people are using them.
temptation to go the dog and bull afterwards.

Purley Pool

Pluses:-
cheap
25m pool
Lots of room ( although there were only 4 people using the pool.)

Minuses:-
Bus ride away
bad facilities (obviously still a council pool even though another company runs it)

All in all for the time being the purley pool make more sense until i get a job. although the holmes place is a lot nicer and closer.
Also swimming 20/25m lengths is lot more tiring than 7m lengths. then again i suppose thats the point.

Regarding Holmes Place, I can buy guest passes (as well as getting issued freebie ones every so often). Basically, these cost 5.25 off-peak, and 7.50 peak. (I.e. it works out cheaper than membership if you only go once a week.) The downside is that you have to synch your timetable with someone else, but it may be an option to consider if you wind up working in Soho.

I'm surprised Holmes Place don't provide towels for members. Not having to faff with towels or shower gel was one of the reasons I liked the gym I used to go to in Holborn.

I think it varies a bit between clubs, but in the Croydon one guests get free towels and members don't. I've chosen to pay extra for them to lend me towels, which is about 50 quid a year.

Which gym was it? I only ask because I used to go to a gym in Holborn and I wondered whether it was coincidentally the same one.

I actually met an old school friend there once, by coincidence.
