10:58 : Signs of increased decrepitude...
... or I may have just found a killer combo of alcohol.

Im on the second day of hangover after my birthday meal at Hawksmoor. The steak was great. I really enjoyed my 1.1Kg of Chateaubriand. I perhaps should have eaten more vegetables with it but that would have probably meant wasting steak. Their prawn cocktail was pretty good as well. I wasnt sure about the trifle though. Trifles should not have jelly in them.

Im probably still suffering from the hangover because of the mix of drinks I had. ESB, Fuller's Vintage, London Porter, Pineapple and Sage Mojito, lots of Malbec and a port plus a few normal beers. It could of course have been the evil GIN in the dessert I finished for kake. I blame the gin. Entirely its fault i tell you.

20:18 : parental computer support
I suppose if I have to clean up my fathers computer there are worse places to do it than the pub. Currently in the Crown on brewer street which has made the good beer guide this year. Some of the beer is really quite cheap for central london. London Pride is £2.50. rgl review to come once kake has uploaded the new gbg data.

00:22 : Life goals
So now I've seen england win the ashes in the flesh the only thing left on my list is to see england win a rugby world cup in the flesh. roll on new zealand in 2011.

I do have another life goal but that gets done during my plans to go and watch the rugby world cup in new zealand.

thinking about it there is another. Being at all the games of an England grand slam. I've done all the home games before.

20:51 : This week i have mostly been...

  • Going to Petersham. Mainly to meet up with people in the Dysart Arms

  • Shouting at co-workers. I got a touch angry during a live deployment on wednesday.

  • Drinking! Two days of supping tasty beer at the gbbf. The st austell black prince was the only thing to really stand out. The gunpowder mild was pretty good as well.

  • Eating pig! I probably had far too many pork scratchings at the gbbf. Although there was a disturbing lack of hairy ones. I also had a 20 inch bratwurst.

  • Staying at home! I couldnt face another day at the gbbf on friday and the weather didnt look too good so didnt go to croydon for the surrey match at whitgift. Instead listened to a fantastic england batting collapse. just like bad old days. ahh the memories.

  • Blogging! I actually wrote a technical blog post after over a year. signed apt repos if you like that sort thing. also in a meta kind of way this post.

10:26 : Vote Early! Vote Often!
You have voted havent you? Or you intend to I hope.

For the first time in a while I actually didnt spoil my ballot paper or vote for the Monster Raving Loonies. I may have even voted for a mainstream political party.

14:47 : 64 and counting
Its warm and sunny in spain. Although it is cloudy at the moment. I seem to have tanned quite a lot already.

The trip down was relatively uneventful. We did Godalming to La Mora in just under 18 hours in the car. We actually did the eurotunnel to the french/spanish border in just under 11 hours.

We had 62 confirmed sightings of windsocks[1] in france. We think there were another 2 but didnt see them. One of the ones we missed was on the villau viaduct. which is pretty impressive.

Biggest sign the machines are taking over is that one of the roadsigns told me i was going to fast. It did freak me out a bit.

Finished 1 book so far. House of suns. I had stopped reading this after about 100 pages a few months ago but made an effort to carry on during this holiday and it was worth it. Obviously just a slow start. Now finally reading Executive Orders by Tom Clancy after having owned it for about 5 years. Its been pretty good so far. I get the impression I might be missing stuff by not having read the previous book but I dont feel to out of the loop. A lot of what you need to know gets regurgitated.

[1] Windsocks are an important part of every car journey. honest.

23:47 : watchmen
Since my cough was tolerable today I went to the cinema to see Watchmen. It was good. I had reread it on sunday. The changed ending made sense. I didnt miss the bits which were dropped. Music was a touch loud at times. Which was probably covering for the lack of dialogue at times.

11:12 : Is it pie?
In an effort to rid the world of heretical pies I finally bought isitpie.com the other day and put some content up.

I have further plans but for now I feel it gets my main point across.
hmm pie.

13:05 : A day at the rugby.
Circles @ Bermondsey

So yesterday I went to Twickenham to watch South Africa beat England. (well humilate actually but at least we didnt play as badly as we did in the pool game in last years world cup.)
In our continueing quest to photograph everything on RGL I went to Strawberry Hill from Waterloo to grab a few photos on the way into Twickenham. So I've now ticked off the Prince Albert, the Prince Blucher, the Prince of Wales and Sagar. Although I need to go back to two of the pubs at some point to sample thier wares. The strawberry hill train is strange because its final destination keeps on changing until you get to strawberry hill at which point it becomes a waterloo train. This is because it's on the Kingston Loop Line.

Before the match there was soem confusion about which pub we were meeting in. So we ended up in the Grand Union which was okay and makes a change from the Cabbage Patch.

After the match we went back to the Grand Union to watch the welsh match. Who played a lot better than we did.

Then we went to Clapham to find an Indian Restaurantfor dinner. The first one we stumbled upon was Indian Moment which was pretty good if not a little full.

We finished the evening with a quick pint in the dependable Falcon. Which I recommend if you want a quick pint near Clapham Junction Station

14:02 : Double Standards
When I commute into work I always think why do the people Ive followed up from the Jubilee Line at Westminster bother to get on a tube to St Jame's Park when they should just walk and not fill up the carriages.
Yet when I leave the Buckingham Arms after a few beers I'm quite happy to take the tube for that one stop. Does this make me a hypocrite?

Then again it is quite a walk and at least I didnt take a taxi home instead.

15:12 : Steak!
For lunch today I did the 25oz rump steak challenge at Chakalaka in Chiswick. I had thought this was too easy so I set a personal target of 10 minutes. I did this with at least 8 seconds to spare. My exif data doesnt lie.before-after. I think i could of gone faster however I was talking to cow-orkers aswell.

For this feat I won a t-shirt which doesnt fit me.

I am now full of steak.

Next challenge is to see if I can bankrupt them with their all you can eat ribs offer at lunchtimes.
